| About the knowledge network During the past few years, the Sports & Physical Education Department of the Hanzehogeschool Groningen, a University of Professional Education, has been active in providing a structure and content for research and educational activities in the area of sports management and policy. Lector Adri Broeke (Higher Professional Education lecturer holding a personal chair) has played a key role in this as lecturer, researcher and educational designer. In his view, the societal importance of sport and the increasing commercialisation of the world of sport compel an appropriate professionalisation of the management of sports organisations. A strengthened knowledge infrastructure and coordinated exchange of expertise between the field of education and the Sports Management professional field are important to achieving this. In relation to this, the Lectorate (expertise centre), together with the associated knowledge network, acts as a bridge between the developments in the world of sport, higher education and the sports management professional field. The added value of knowledge is at the forefront of the Lectorate's activities. The Lectorate acts in line with the mission of the Hanzehogeschool Groningen, a University of Professional Education, which is to be a dynamic centre of expertise with an international reputation. Lector Broeke publicly accepted his lectorship with his inaugural lecture entitled Sports Management as a Profession. In this inaugural lecture he outlined the points of departure of the recently initiated design and development programme. |
